4-H Charter Club Inaugural Meeting Invitational

 Fall 2023

Dear Vegas Families and Friends,

Estes Farms Vegas is a Federally Certified Wildlife Habitat and urban homestead in Las Vegas, NV that will be hosting a new 4-H Charter Program (name to be decided by participants) for the youth in our community to learn self sufficiency, and confident independence. The 4-H Charter Club will nurture social groups through participation in community service projects amongst peers, facilitated by adults who are FBI fingerprinted and background checked to ensure safety for our youth. 4-H stands for Head, Heart, Hands, Health.

In order to start our local charter at Estes Farms Vegas, we need you! Not you, grown ups… 4-H is a YOUTH GROUP!!! 4-H is open to children ages 8-18, while Cloverbuds is open to ages 5-7, and both will hold meetings Fridays at 5pm at Estes Farms Vegas. Of course, all caretakers to 4-H youth are welcome at Estes Farms and may watch the youth led proceedings. Caretakers are also invited to become a legitimate facilitator by speaking with the Extension Office 4-H Coordinator, Ryan Tesar (info below). Facilitators are volunteers who have passed background checks, and have an interest in assisting in the development of our youth as a way to guide them to a positive and productive future.

4-H is a Youth Led Organization, where young people gather to discuss topics of curiosity and concern in their lives in a group of peers. Peers consult with each other, make plans of action, and create service projects from start to finish that benefit the greater community. In order to officially start our new (name TBD) 4-H Charter Club at Estes Farms Vegas, we will hold an inaugural charter meeting wherein the new youth club members will elect officers for certain positions, to be held for 1 year:
-President
-Vice President
-Secretary
-Treasurer
-Other (some clubs have historians, photographers, etc.)

For these positions, we'll want youth ages 9 and above, though other officer positions are available for younger members. The way election works is whoever is interested in running for a position will be "nominated" by a peer and they will give a speech. If the person declines the nomination, they don't need to give a speech. After all speeches for a particular position are given, the youth vote on whom to elect.

Before the inaugural meeting, club members should think about their own unique qualities that could be shared in a short speech about themselves, and how those unique qualities could be used in certain leadership positions in the organization, to prepare to deliver on-the-spot speeches if nominated and decided to accept the nomination. Once we get club officers elected, we'll discuss what projects our 4-H Charter Club will be doing, how to enroll volunteers/youth into 4-H Online, and sign our official chartering documents. Then our official Extension Office 4-H Volunteer Program Coordinator, Ryan Tesar, will submit the documents to the Nevada 4-H office, and once they're approved (which shouldn't take too long), we'll have an official 4-H club to start fundraising, advertising as a 4-H club, doing service projects, planning field trips, and all that other good stuff!
